Improv Weaving

A great way to start off your weaving journey, or play with color, texture and fiber, Improv Weaving is a beginner-friendly one-day workshop of weaving an improvisational wall hanging or scarf on a four-shaft table loom.

Immerse yourself in a joyful free weaving style which teaches that everything, every piece of wool, blade of grass, or missing thread has its own beauty. Be inspired by the abundance of traditional and unusual materials that can be used in weaving. Make up your own composition as you go and create a wall hanging that is uniquely your own by using freeform weaving, knotting, loom-controlled patterns, and whimsical touches.

Color Theory for Fiber Arts

Every craftsperson and artist uses color, even if instinctively! Refresh your craft practice by learning a more systematic approach to color. Master the basic concepts of hue, value, and saturation; explore ranges of true neutrals and chromatic greys. Study color interactions with scale, proportion, optical mixing; experiment with traditional and innovative color schemes; and apply your theoretical knowledge to your craft materials and create your own book of samples to use as reference in design.

Fiber Arts for kids

Weaving, felting, sewing, braiding, dyeing - learning arts in the preschool and elementary school years addresses the development of the whole child. In Vera’s fiber arts classes, kids as young as 3 can learn about where our clothing comes from, how important textiles are in our lives, and how to make them sustainably. Kids practice visual and fine motor skills, create integrated sensory experiences that involve smell, touch, hearing, taste, vestibular stimuli, and use their whole bodies to make what they need for their play.
